Your Role

As our Senior Applications Database Analyst you'll be the senior database expert within the applications team. Planning, designing, implementing and supporting production ready Database platforms for the delivery of new technologies as well as ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the vital business applications in order to deliver a consistent and available service.

Work directly with our IT Leadership, team members, and Business System owners to provide agile data delivery to support business operations and projects. The scope of work can range from escalated database support, multi-tier business application backend support, vendor management, application\module upgrades, creating reports, scripting/developing automations, integrations and workflows.

Our firm uses technology to support all aspects of our business in order to build our communication and collaboration capability. Our IT  team of technical and project-focused experts work together to resolve challenges, by creating robust and sustainable solutions for the business.

Your day

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Architecture: integrate databases and their associated software into enterprise systems including lifecycle management in line with the firms strategy and policies.
  • Testing: coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems to ensure new or modified systems meet requirements.
  • Ensure that the firm's applications/databases are managed at or close to best practice compared to other top tier professional services firms
  • Technology Planning: propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to the Information Technology group
  • Capacity Management: design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
  • Documentation: create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and planning so that the systems library contains up-to-date and relevant material.
  • Trending: conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards to support operational and development efforts.
  • Leading squad meetings and sharing knowledge to ensure alignment and prioritisation of work are communicated regularly.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders in order to achieve business outcomes.
  • Ensuring that Allens core applications perform at an agreed standard and are operational for business
  • Escalation support, undertake an immediate effort to restore failed services and if necessary request external support from third parties such as software or hardware manufacturers in order to maintain service delivery to the firm.
  • Collaborate with IT and business staff to ensure smooth and reliable integration of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Responsible for the outcomes of the teams’ projects in order to achieve a specific goal. The team will be guided by the methodology promoted by the group's Projects Team.

What you'll bring

  • Minimum of five years of experience providing Database Analyst services to large and complex businesses
  • Experience with supporting enterprise business systems
  • Demonstrated Back End application Database support for enterprise, high-performance applications using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Extensive experience working with SQL 2014 through to 2019
  • Strong performance tuning and system optimisation skills, experience with identifying and fixing performance bottlenecks
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience and proven methodologies in troubleshooting and problem solving;
  • Knowledge of current standards such as ITIL and Agile
  • Advanced hands-on development/automation skills in query and scripting languages; TSQL & Powershell required
  • Proficient with working in a Microsoft Server platform
  • Experienced in Microsoft SQL Reporting Services and Power BI will be of benefit
  • Experience leading small groups and managing discrete projects
  • Ability to make sound and logical judgments 
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with an ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language
  • Ability to think laterally to find creative solutions to issues
  • Able to conduct research into issues and products as required
  • Able to manage systems incorporating gathering and understanding business requirements, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose and appropriate support workflows are in place such as user support knowledge base and escalation procedures, managing licensing requirements and vendor support, ensuring high availability and uptime, and quick remediation if outages occur
