We are seeking a Lawyer/Associate to join our Brisbane Corporate team, with specific experience and interest in the energy and resources sector.
This is a fantastic role for a lawyer interested in working in a collaborative and high performing team, building relationships with large, listed clients and advising on complex and interesting transactions in the Brisbane market.

We work with our clients in this sector across the entire spectrum of issues that arise, including: acquisitions, disposals and restructures; joint ventures; the full cycle of approvals for development of mineral and petroleum projects; advising on project operational and regulatory matters; land access and native title; agreements for supply of use of crucial infrastructure such as rail, port and water; gas and commodity sale agreements.
We are seeking an Associate to join our Brisbane Corporate team, with specific experience and interest in the energy and resources sector. You will be working with leading energy and resources specialists who are focussed on your career, and have the opportunity to work with an exciting portfolio of clients.
We're looking for an Associate with experience, or a keen interest in, energy and resources. As an Associate in our Corporate practice, you'll get the benefit of spending part of your time working across our wider Corporate team (M&A and capital mergers) while also spending time specialising in resources, building relationships with key clients.
From an energy and resources perspective, your day will typically include advising on matters such as:
- Acquisitions and divestments in the energy and resources sectors
- Joint ventures, JOAs, shareholders agreements and partnership structures
- Project development approvals, including negotiating agreement for land access and native title;
- Occasional matters in the Land Court or National native Title Tribunal dealing with project approval objections or compensation disputes
- Regulatory matters involving energy and resources operations
We have a blue chip energy and resources client base, and you will be working with a range of clients including several of the world's largest mining and oil and gas companies, as well as a number of leading private companies active in the sector. Our relationship with our clients is key, and with many of them we do both day to day operational work as well as major transactions.
Our Brisbane team is a core part of Allens' national Corporate team, offering members the ability to work for Allens' national client base and to regularly work with lawyers from our offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. This provides an excellent opportunity for you to accelerate and further develop your technical skills and experience.

Our Brisbane Energy and Resources team is expanding and looking for an Associate with the desire to learn and develop their career with us. You'll be exposed to corporate legal work across the Partnership while also developing a specialised skillset in energy and resources. This role will focus on relationships with clients, rather than purely transactional work and the potential for growth within the practice is enormous.

What you'll bring
- Experience working in the energy and resources sector at a leading Australian practice or international firm
- Experience advising on M&A transactions and/or project development
- An enthusiastic interest in the sector, a willingness to learn and a growth mindset
- An ability to effectively manage small to medium size matters and play a key role as part of a team working on larger matters
- A willingness to build an understanding of clients and develop effective working relationships with them
- An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks including across all our offices, as we work as an integrated team across jurisdictions.
